Saturday 8th July tips – Listed Double at Sandown could provide handsome return Ladbrokes

Queen Of Time (centre) features in this Listed Double at Sandown on Saturda.

There is plenty of flat racing to enjoy on ITV this Saturday afternoon, as Sandown hosts the second day of their historic Coral-Eclipse meeting. Along with the main event itself, there are two classy Listed races to entertain racegoers and we’ve combined our selections for both races into this Listed Double with Ladbrokes.

Saturday’s Sandown Listed Double

3:00pm Coral Distaff – QUEEN OF TIME

4:10pm Coral Marathon – NEARLY CAUGHT

3:00pm Sandown Coral Distaff (Listed) 1m

Standing Rock is an interesting entrant, having only raced once in her short career so far. Ryan Moore will partner John Gosden’s filly, but being an unknown quantity she’s hard to back. Tisbutadream won well on good-to-firm ground at Ascot earlier in the spring, before being found a little wanting in high profile outings since.

Paco’s Angel leads the market after finishing third in the Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot, but she hasn’t won since stepping up to a mile from sprinting and could struggle on the firm ground. QUEEN OF TIME passed the post a length behind Paco’s Angel in fourth in the Sandringham, but Henry Candy’s charge acquitted herself well on her first appearance on the big stage and could build on that performancehere.

She failed to impress in her first two career starts, before running Cashla Bay close in her final outing as a two-year-old. She began 2017 with two excellent victories at Goodwood, resulting in an 11 pound boost in rating. James Doyle takes the ride on Saturday and Queen Of Time could realise her potential with a maiden Listed victory.

4:10pm Coral Marathon (Listed) 2m

Sadly, the ITV cameras will not be rolling when this classy renewal of the Esher Stakes gets up and running, but it looks like being a cracking contest none-the-less.

High Jinx defied a two-year layoff to run a storming race in the Yorkshire Cup, staying on gamely to claim third behind Dartmouth and Simple Verse after leading for much of the contest. Montaly also impressed on his last outing, timing his late charge perfectly to claim Yorkshire Cup glory ahead of Yorkidding at the start of May.

Oriental Fox claimed a stunning, surprise victory over Thomas Hobson in the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot and deserves his spot near the head of the betting. However, NEARLY CAUGHT has kept much classier company than this in recent seasons and could be a danger stepping down in grade.

Hughie Morrison’s seven-year-old has struggled a little for form since winning a Group 2 title at Deauville last summer, finishing third and fifth in prestigious races at Chantilly and Ascot last autumn. He returned to action with a third place finish in the Sagaro Stakes and came out second best in a rare trip to Germany to fight for another big prize pot.

He looked out of his depth as Big Orange and Order Of St George battled for the Ascot Gold Cup, trailing over the line night. However, this is a significant drop in class, he will be much more comfortable over this 16 furlong trip and having the in-form James Doyle for company could give him a much-needed lift.

Morrison will expect a victory. Doyle will expect a victory. Let’s hope they can deliver.
